UK opening up to American tourists is a positive experience but I call on the US to return the favour. [Reader Story]

Hi Sammual-James, I wrote to you a few weeks ago about the possibility of the UK opening up to American tourists so I wanted to share my experience with you now that they have.

Last week, when the UK announced they would open to vaccinated Americans, I immediately changed plans I previously had to go to Brussels to go to London for the weekend instead. I stayed at an AirBNB for 2 nights, went out to 4 different restaurants, went to several different pubs and nightclubs, and even saw Anything Goes at the Barbican starring Sutton Foster (it was amazing!!). Quite a boost of economic activity for London I must say! And most importantly, I was able to re-connect with 3 very close friends I hadn't seen in 16 months.

The process was still a little painful; I had to take a test before going, I had to pay for a Day 2 arrival test at LHR, and because the test wasn't back in time for my return to the US I had to take ANOTHER antigen test for the return. But in all it showed that safe travel for a vaccinated and tested traveler IS possible during these times and is a boost to the economic and mental well being of our societies.

Just thought I'd share, and I call on the US to return the favour. I plan to return again in late September for a bit longer trip.
