New York has lifted its face mask mandate however you still need to wear masks on public transportation, at the theater, in schools and other places. New York City officials recommend that everyone wear masks in indoor public spaces, but businesses can set their own rules. NYC Health Officials require restaurants, gyms and entertainment venues to ask for proof of vaccination, this is under a policy known as Key to N.Y.C. In other words individuals over 5 years old must show proof that they have received both doses of the vaccination. You must also wear face coverings in Broadway theatres and you must be vaccinated too.
New Yorkers are now free to ditch their face masks in the likes of shops and grocery stores. However only if the businesses allow it.
The New York Times has a very good write up on the new roll back COVID rules, well worth checking out - https://www.nytimes.com/article/nyc-mask-mandate-rules.html
