Missed or delayed flights to the USA, how does that impact your US required COVID Test?

Lots of questions continue to be asked regarding COVID testing and US travel, the sooner COVID testing for international travellers is scrapped the better. However the question asked relates to what happens for flight delayed out of your control that goes past the 1 day limit before testing? To be fair you are probably already going to be stressed as it is trying to sort your delayed flight. However there is an element of flexibility by the US.

Quite simply the CDC states:

The CDC says if the 1st flight in your trip is delayed past the 1-day limit of testing, and that delay is 24 hours or less past the 1-day limit for testing, you do not need to be retested. If the delay is more than 24 hours you will need to be retested.

In terms of a connecting flight:

If connecting flight in your trip is delayed past the 1-day limit of testing due and that delay is less than 48 hours past the 1-day limit for testing, you do not need to be retested.
