The USA is a wonderful country to visit. Here are guidance and thoughts on how long you are allowed to stay in the US as a visitor.

This is a question I'm asked frequently and there is no set answer. Babur don't outstay your US travel trip.

The first thing I would say is don't abuse your ESTA. Many countries, including the UK are part of the Visa Waiver Programme, which permits citizens of 38 countries to travel to the USA for business or tourism for stays of up to 90 days without a visa.

Remember you can visit the USA for business or tourism for stays of up to 90 days without a visa, please do not abuse that.

Also worth bearing in mind, the Visa Waiver Program is solely for tourism and business only, you should not be working in the US.

There are no set rules but I would advise that you remain out of the US longer than your last duration. So, say for example if you were in the USA for 40 days, then that should be your target, stay out of the US for longer than 40 days. Therefore visiting the USA and then leaving for a couple of days and then returning to reset you ESTA stay will not do you any favours and you can expect to be questioned by US Border Protection upon your return visit.

On any visit do not stay in the USA for the full 90 days, as staying for the full time and then returning back to the US raises suspicions that you're trying to get established in the US and trying to stay longer than what is legally allowed.

Finally to ensure you comply with all US entry and stay rules, check the website of the U.S. Consulate in your country to determine which rules will govern your trip.
