In 2009, the High Line, a former railroad line that is now a public park, reopened. Through welcoming lawns, constantly changing public art, and flower beds that are all elevated several metres above the ground, the long, narrow park meanders through West Manhattan. Entry is free.
Elevators and stairs connect a variety of locations in Chelsea to the park, allowing access from both. Hipsters, families and locals can be seen relaxing on the High Line's deckchairs while you stroll along for views of West Manhattan whilst admiring the beautiful plants and wild life. Keep an eye out for Frank Gehry's IAC building and Nabisco, the company that invented the Oreo cookie. Look out for the Empire State Building peeping above the natural urban landscape of the High Line.
